Club career

He began his football career at the age of six, when his father first took him on a training at a local football club.[2] Due to his low size he emphasized his training on technical elements and is known for his dribbling, agility and passing skills.[1] Although primarily a right-footed defender, he can also play as a midfielder. In July 2010 he signed a four-year contract with the Slovenian PrvaLiga club Maribor.[3] In the 2013–14 season, he was chosen as the best young footballer of the season in the Slovenian PrvaLiga.[4]

In June 2014, after four years in Maribor, Milec signed for Belgian top division side Standard Liège. The transfer fee paid by Standard is alleged to be around €1.3 million.[5][6]

On 6 August 2017, Milec returned to Maribor on a three-year contract.[7]

International career

Throughout his career he has been a member of Slovenia youth selections and represented Slovenia U19 at the 2009 UEFA Under-19 Championship.[1][2] He also played for the Slovenia U21 team. He has been capped four times for the senior squad.[8]

Personal life

A native of Rače, Slovenia, he is a lifelong fan of NK Maribor, a club he played for, and regularly attended Maribor's matches as a child.[9]
