So I was thinking about this question earlier, and I could not find a good reference for it or think of a solution. Suppose I am given a variety over a finite field, $X$ and I know it is smooth. I want to know if $X$ came from reducing mod p a variety over say $mathbbC$ or $mathbbQ$. I have seen a lot of literature about lifting this variety to say $mathbbQ_p$, and I also know as fields that $overlinemathbbQ_p cong mathbbC$. However, I do not really want to use this isomorphism, because I want to use some topological properties of $mathbbC$. Does anyone know conditions on $X$ for this to work?
