Sergio Quintana is a general assignment freelance reporter[1] for KNTV NBC Bay Area News.
He joined ABC 7 News in August 2011.


Prior to working for KNTV he was a reporter at KTVU Channel 2 and a freelance reporter at ABC 7 News/KGO-TV.
As a freelance reporter, Sergio has also produced stories for National Public Radio, Al Jazeera English,[2] and Sirius/XM Satellite Radio.[3]

Prior Experience


Before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, Sergio was a reporter at WNCN TV, the NBC Affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina.[1] While at NBC 17, Sergio focused on stories related to immigration in the state.[citation needed]


Prior to NBC 17, Sergio reported for KFWB News Radio in Los Angeles. He spent three years with KFWB and covered stories including the Golden Globe Awards and the Robert Blake murder trial (Blake was acquitted).


Sergio began his career in TV and Radio in his home state of New Mexico.[3] In college he began at KUNM, the NPR station in Albuquerque and later became news tape editor at KOB TV, the NBC affiliate in Albuquerque. After graduating from the University of New Mexico, he moved to Roswell, New Mexico to report for KOBR TV. From Roswell, he moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico as a bureau reporter for KOAT TV.[4] From KOAT he moved to KRQE TV in Albuquerque.



Awards And Honors


In 2010, Quintana was part of the team at KTVU TV that was recognized with a Peabody Award for continuing coverage of the killing of Oscar Grant by BART Police Officer Johannes Mehserle.


He has also been awarded two "Golden Mikes" by the Radio And Television News Association of Southern California for his work at KFWB radio.[citation needed]


Sergio was part of a fellowship awarded by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. He was one of six freelance reporters who worked with students from New York University and the University of Arizona on a series of immigration stories.


He has also been awarded fellowships by the Knight Digital Media Foundation at UC Berkeley and the International Center for Journalists in Washington DC.[1][3]


In 2012, Sergio was elected Secretary of the Executive Board of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.[5]
